The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum is the first truly American fairy tale about Dorothy and her dog Toto, who are swept away by a cyclone to a strange land called Oz. There she joins the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion on a journey to the Emerald City to visit the powerful Wizard of Oz.
In Chapter One, our story begins on the Kansas prairie.
