Book Jacket for The Five Little Peppers and How They GrewThe Good Master is an enchanting story about a sweet family living on the Hungarian Plains. The family, Mother, Father, and Jansci, live a peaceful farming life which is thrown into utter chaos when cousin Kate comes from Budapest to stay with them. Can she be tamed by the good master?

In Chapter Nine, Kate and Jansci ride out with their father when he goes to inspect the wheat fields. Instead of making them go around with him while he talks about boring grown-up things, he leaves them at the river with Gesa. Gesa lets them ride back and forth on the Komp as much as they want, but they soon tire of it. When Kate suggests they go swimming it sounds like great fun, but Kate doesn’t know that strange waters can be dangerous.
